Accreditation Parent Survey

MCH is in the process of re-accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  A component of that re-accreditation asks is a brief survey of our parents. The survey asks a series of question about your satisfaction with our program.  The survey is on Survey Monkey and is relatively short and easy to complete.  It should only take you about 10 minutes.  A link to the survey will be sent to you via email.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.  You will not be asked to identify yourself so your responses are strictly confidential.

Please complete the survey no later than Friday, January 14th.

If you have any question about the survey please do not hesitate to ask Curt.

Thanks so much for your help in completing this important part of our accreditation.

Parent Education

Robert Evans will speak on Values, Character, and Healthy Growth at Burke’s School on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 9:00am.  Please see flyer on the bulletin board!

Tuition Assistance Applications

TAP applications are available in the office.  Completed applications are due on Friday, January 28. Please see Curt if you have any questions about TAP or about the application process.

Reminder about the Administration of Medication at MCH

From the MCH Parent Handbook:

Children who are not contagious but who require medication (prescription or over the counter) during the school day may come to school, provided the parent complies with the following requirements:

·        Provide a physician’s permission for MCH to administer prescription and over the counter medication.

·        Fill out and sign a Medication Permission Form (in the office).

·        Give the physician’s permission form and medication to the Administrator.

·        Clearly label all medications with child's name, dosage and time to be administered.

·        If the parents don’t provide a physician’s permission form, MCH will ask that parents come to the school to administer the medication when needed.

Do not leave any medicine in your child's lunch box or property bin. Because of State Licensing requirements, all medication must be taken home by families when their child is picked up.

Extra Curricular Classes

The new session for extra curricular classes starts in February. Please look for the new sign-up sheets, which will be posted on Monday.

The classes are $12/class except for Gymnastics which is $13/class. They will be invoiced for 5 months (Feb – June) on the February invoice.

The children can try a class once before signing up for the whole session.

Mondays:  Spanish with Maria Fernanda Cooperstein ($12/class).  This is Fernanda’s second year with us.  Fernanda is originally from Argentina and is a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires.  She has taught Spanish for many years, most recently at the Berkeley Language Institute and the Montessori House of Children here in San Francisco.  She uses lots of manipulatives, games, songs and movement to teach basic Spanish vocabulary and culture.  Fernanda’s class will be taught in the Nap Room.

Tuesdays:   Music & Movement with Amanda Hahn ($12/class). Amanda Hahn, a certified Orff teacher and former MCH music teacher, will be conducting the class.  Amanda needs at least 8 children to hold the class.  The music class will be taught in the Nap Room.

Wednesdays:  Soccer for 4 year olds and older. This class is not under the auspices of the school but is organized by Soccer & Smiles. If you’re interested in the program please contact Jimmy Rothenberg, jimmy@soccerandsmiles.com; www.soccerandsmiles.com

Thursdays:  Mandarin Chinese with Yao ($12/class). Yuhong Yao is a native speaker.  She has taught in a variety of schools in San Francisco for many years.  Yao is also an accomplished artist and combines her teaching with art and movement.

Fridays:  Gymnastics with Fitness in Transit ($13/class).  Fitness in Transit has provided gymnastics classes at MCH for many years.  This is a very popular program that children and parents dearly love.  Heather Bear and her teachers bring all their equipment and set up in the Oak Room.  The teachers are quite skilled and provide an excellent curriculum.  This class will fill up very fast so, sign up soon.

An Important Morning Poem

We know, the mornings are a busy time,

But please, to avoid a hefty fine,

You’ve got to sign! ( in )

Stop by our meeting and we will be happy to explain.  And please come to the meeting with any ideas, questions and/or concerns you may have.  We are excited to hear from all of you!

Also, for those who were on the auction committee last year, we would love for you to stop by and give us your expertise per last year duties!
