Nov. 24-26...............Thanksgiving Holiday

Dec. 4, Sat...............Family Park Play (park TBD) - 10:00am 12:00 noon

A big thank you to all the parents who helped make the Book Fair a great event for the MCH community! It was wonderful to see our children's enthusiasm as they helped Andrea Alban Gosline tell the story of The Happiness Tree and as they danced and played instruments to This Land Is Your Land and La Bamba with Issac Zones.

Jen Fetner (Greylin – Oak) deserves a very special thank you for all her work and support throughout the event planning process.  Jen designed all the event materials with her lovely illustration of a boy and girl reading under a tree.  Jen also made the bookmarks that everyone took home from the event!  We have a few extras which we will leave at the school for those who did not pick one up or could not make it.

Ella Leshchenko (David – Oak) helped spread the word and market the event beyond our MCH community, sending out emails, posting flyers and lending us an easel to advertise on the day of the event.  John Toth (Victoria – Oak) and Tom Bell (Lillian – Oak) graciously helped us set up at Books, Inc. (along with Jen and Ella) and did a superb job greeting everyone as they arrived (and acting as bartender!).  Kelly McKane (Matthew – Redwood), Merritt Richmond (Ben – Oak), Tracy O'Connor (Aidan – Oak, Ryan – Redwood), Dawn Jha (Jackie – Oak), Ciela Sarte (Scarlett – Redwood) and Molly Wadhwani (Anna – Redwood) brought delicious appetizers and desserts to keep everyone well-fed as they browsed for books.  And Dawn Jha and Robert Sindelar (Andrew – Oak), who were so kind to stay late and help with clean-up to the very end.

And thank you to all the MCH families who joined us and purchased books to support the school!

Heather Bell (Lillian, O) Book Fair Coordinator

And a big thanks to Heather for coordinating this wonderful event and for making it a smashing success!!!!! - Curt

Thank you Redwood Cocktail Party

Many thanks to the Monahan family (Natasha, Tim, Kellen, Skylar and Ian) for hosting the Redwood Room cocktail party last Friday night.  What a phenomenal setting for the party; open, airy and a beautifully designed house.  Thanks to the Redwood Room parents for bringing great food and conversation.  As with the Oak Room, it was a delightful tribute to the vibrancy of our community.

Observe Your Child

Montessori teachers are trained to be keen observers of children’s behavior. These observations enable us to ascertain where each child is at in their stage of development.  Observations also help us construct and alter our learning environments to meet the needs of the children in the class, know which presentations to give and the level of freedom and responsibility each child is capable of assuming.  I would encourage parents to also be keen observers of their own child’s development.  Take a few moments each day to notice the small details of your child’s life (e.g. how he uses language, her level of independence, his likes and dislikes, her interest in the world around her, etc.). You may want to keep a journal of these observations and then discuss them with your partner.  Your reflections on matters such as your child’s emotional development, physical needs, changing eating habits, likes and dislikes, friends, activities around the house and sibling dynamics will prepare you to support your child’s development. This will also enable you to rethink freedom and responsibilities, limits and structure, and materials and activities in the home and adjust them accordingly.

It’s that special time of year again, when we all get to pledge our support to an organization that is near and dear to our hearts – Montessori Children’s House. We hope to raise over $30,000 this year, to help MCH keep tuition affordable for a diverse group of families, and to continue to offer professional development opportunities for the teachers and rich materials for the children to work with in the classrooms. This is truly a team effort and we cannot do it without your help!  Our goal is 100% participation – so please give at a level that is meaningful for you and your family.  Please keep your eyes out for our Annual Fund thermometer/giving tree near the Bunny Room. Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Aloha from the Annual Fund Team

News from the Auction Team

Please give yourself 5 extra minuets either at drop off or pick up next week to look on the board for the AUCTION SIGN UP SHEET.  We NEED the help of the parent community and there are plenty of jobs which still need to be filled.  This week we will be sending out an external donations letter to local businesses to solicit gifts for our auction and we will be needing help from you to follow up with phone calls, emails as well as picking up donated items or gift certificates.  Those roles still need to be filled, so be sure to sign up for something this week!  We really need all of your help so please sign up for something this week!
Thank you,
Ivy, Ann and Jordan
